Americans are more frugal

According to the AP Americans have become more frugal since the recession began.  "Many of them have steady income. They aren't saddled by high debts. They  don't fear losing their jobs. Yet despite recent gains, they've lost so much household wealth that they're far more cautious about spending than before the recession."

The article implies that this is a bad thing because 70% of our economy is driven by consumer spending.  However, if we are going to truly recover we need capital to invest.  There is no capital to invest without savings.  But of course inflation hurts savers while deflation hurts debtors.  That's why you constantly hear people grumbling that they are more worried about deflation than inflation.  Yeah, why would we want to reward those that are frugal.  Either way, being frugal at this point with the economy the way it is is very smart.  So keep it up.  Its not your job to go out and stimulate the economy by buying a bunch of crap you don't need.
